Sohar, Oman – The historic Sohar Fort in the North Al Batinah Governorate welcomed more than 1,170 visitors during the recent Eid Al-Fitr holidays, drawing both citizens and residents eager to explore its cultural legacy.

A Fortress of History and Architectural Brilliance

According to Sultan Ali Al Muqbali, Director of the Sohar Fort Museum, visitors were captivated by the fort’s rare artefacts, strategic location, and timeless architectural design. Many came to appreciate the rich history that this ancient stronghold represents.

Built between the 13th and early 14th centuries, Sohar Fort has stood as a symbol of Oman’s heritage for generations. It played a pivotal role in the region’s political and trade activities, especially due to its commanding coastal position.

Museum Showcases Oman’s Copper Trade and Global Ties

Inside the fort, the Sohar Fort Museum offers an in-depth look into Oman’s historical narratives. It features exhibits on the copper trade, a key economic driver in ancient times, and explores Oman’s long-standing relations with Canton in China.

The museum also displays artefacts unearthed from archaeological excavations, both within the fort and from other notable historical sites across Oman. These exhibits shed light on the day-to-day life and global connections of Oman’s past civilizations.
