Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured a dominant 7-0 victory over fourth-tier Stade Briochin in the French Cup quarterfinals, with Gonçalo Ramos scoring a remarkable hat trick to lead the French giants into the semifinals. This crushing defeat ended Stade Briochin’s fairytale run in the competition, following their stunning victories over Ligue 1 teams Nice and Le Havre.
PSG’s coach Luis Enrique expressed satisfaction with the performance, stating, “It’s a perfect evening because we’ve achieved our goal of qualifying for the semi-finals and giving other players a chance to show their skills.” He also praised Stade Briochin for their impressive journey in the tournament.
João Neves put PSG ahead in the 16th minute, converting a rebound off the crossbar. Gonçalo Ramos then doubled the lead in the 36th minute with a close-range goal from a cross by Senny Mayulu. Ramos added his second from the penalty spot early in the second half before assisting Désiré Doué to make it 4-0.
Doué played a key role in Ramos completing his hat trick and also set up Mayulu for the sixth goal. Substitute Ousmane Dembélé rounded off the victory with a powerful shot five minutes before the final whistle, marking his first goal in the competition and his 25th of the season.
PSG, who remain unbeaten since November, will face Lille in Ligue 1 next, followed by a crucial Champions League round-of-16 clash against Liverpool. Luis Enrique emphasized the team’s attacking form, saying, “We’ve scored 17 goals in our last three games, and we’re improving to keep getting stronger.”
In other quarterfinal action, Dunkerque, who eliminated Lille in the previous round, defeated Brest 3-2 to reach the semifinals. Reims triumphed over Angers 5-3 on penalties, while fourth-tier Cannes stunned Ligue 2’s Guingamp with a 3-1 victory.
