Oman’s Shura Council Discusses Education Policies with Minister of Education

Muscat: The Shura Council convened its 7th regular session of the 10th Term’s second sitting on Wednesday, engaging in a critical discussion with Dr. Madiha Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education. The session focused on advancing school education policies, enhancing human resource development, and improving private education standards across Oman.

Government Commitment to Education Development

Dr. Madiha reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to education reform, driven by the Royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. She noted that Oman’s education sector is witnessing continuous improvements, ensuring students receive a high-quality learning experience that aligns with global standards.

The government has allocated OMR 27.4 million to a large-scale digital transformation initiative, marking education technology as a national priority. This investment aims to modernize the education system by integrating artificial intelligence (AI), enhancing digital learning tools, and optimizing administrative and educational systems in government schools.

Implementation of Digital Transformation in Education

The Ministry of Education’s digital transition project is designed to:

  • Develop AI-driven learning solutions.
  • Enhance teaching methodologies with smart tools.
  • Improve administrative systems for seamless operations.
  • Strengthen digital infrastructure in public schools.

This initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which emphasizes technological advancements in education to equip students with future-ready skills.

Quality Assurance System for Schools

Dr. Madiha also announced that a new educational quality assurance system will be implemented in the 2025/2026 academic year. The system is designed in alignment with the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education and will assess various educational aspects, including:

  • School performance and student achievements.
  • Personal development and skill-building.
  • Teaching quality and strategies.
  • Learning environments and digital readiness.
  • Leadership, management, and governance standards.

The new framework ensures that Omani schools meet international education benchmarks, fostering a competitive and innovative academic environment.

Community Engagement in Education

Dr. Madiha stressed that education is a shared responsibility, requiring active collaboration between the government, private sector, and society. She encouraged stronger community partnerships to support the development of a sustainable and high-quality education system.

By involving parents, educators, and stakeholders, Oman aims to build an inclusive learning environment that prepares students for future academic and professional challenges.
