Bahla, a city steeped in history and rich traditions, witnessed a heartwarming celebration of Laylat Al Aqba, a special night in the middle of Ramadhan, dedicated to honoring children who have fasted for 15 days. This annual event is a cherished tradition passed down through generations, filling the air with spiritual joy and reverence.
A Night of Spirituality and Joy
Laylat Al Aqba is a time for families and children to come together and celebrate the achievement of young ones who have fasted for half of the holy month of Ramadhan. While the name and customs may vary across different regions, the joy and spiritual atmosphere remain universal. In Bahla, this night is marked by a gathering full of supplications, praises, and a palpable sense of community pride.
A Grand Celebration by the Al Sour Team
To commemorate this auspicious occasion, the Al Sour Team, in collaboration with the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs in Bahla and Marasim Tourism Company, organized a grand event that drew nearly a thousand children. Dressed in their traditional attire, the children paraded through the ancient streets of Bahla, including the famous Bahla Fort, carrying lanterns that illuminated the night. The event was also a large communal gathering, with families and spectators joining in to celebrate the spirit of the occasion.
Children Lead the Celebrations
The celebration began with a revered Shaikh leading the gathering in reciting supplications, with the children joyfully repeating praises and glorifications of Allah. Their voices echoed through the narrow alleyways, creating an unforgettable spiritual ambiance. As a token of recognition for their dedication, the children received gifts and treats, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Fatima al Shaqsi, one of the children who participated, shared her excitement: “I have completed 15 days of fasting in Ramadhan, and I am so happy. This celebration feels like a special recognition for my efforts, and I’m excited to continue fasting for the rest of Ramadhan and every year after.”
Preserving Traditions and Strengthening Community Bonds
Laylat Al Aqba serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving traditions and connecting the younger generation to their cultural heritage. For the children of Bahla, this celebration provides not just a sense of accomplishment, but also unforgettable memories that reinforce the values of faith, family, and tradition. As Ramadhan continues, such celebrations help bridge the past with the present, ensuring that these meaningful customs live on for generations to come.
