Tomas Rosicky addresses Arsenal links, confirms no formal offer.
Tomas Rosicky’s Future: No Arsenal Sporting Director Offer
Sparta Prague’s sporting director, Tomas Rosicky, has dismissed speculation linking him to the sporting director role at Arsenal. Despite rumors connecting him with the Emirates Stadium following Edu’s departure, Rosicky clarified in an exclusive interview with Flashscore’s Livesport Daily podcast that he has not received any official approach from Arsenal’s management.
The former Arsenal midfielder, who has held his position at Sparta Prague since 2018, acknowledged the honor of being associated with his former club but reinforced his commitment to his current role.
Arsenal’s Sporting Director Search Continues
Since Edu’s exit, Jason Ayto has stepped in to fill the role on an interim basis, and reports suggest he remains a contender for the permanent position. Other candidates linked to the job include former Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth.
However, Rosicky remains an outsider for the position. Speaking on Livesport Daily, he stated:
“My connection with Arsenal is natural because I spent ten years there. During that time, I built a strong bond with the club, just as I have with Sparta Prague. While it’s an honor to be considered by Arsenal, I have not received any offer.”
Rosicky on His Relationship with Mikel Arteta
During his decade-long tenure with Arsenal, Rosicky played alongside current manager Mikel Arteta. Reflecting on their time together, Rosicky shared that while they were strong teammates, they do not maintain regular contact.
“Mikel and I played together for almost five years. We were good teammates, but we are not in constant touch. When we meet, we’re happy to see each other, but we don’t call each other regularly.”
Why Midfielders Make Great Managers
Rosicky also shared insights on why former midfielders like Arteta, Xabi Alonso, Xavi, and Pep Guardiola have transitioned successfully into coaching.
“These players occupied the most strategic positions on the pitch. They had to read the game, control play between the lines, and anticipate movements. Their deep understanding of positioning, passing angles, and tactical awareness gives them an advantage in coaching.”
Rosicky’s Success at Sparta Prague
Under Rosicky’s leadership, Sparta Prague secured the Czech league title in 2023, breaking a nine-year drought. They successfully defended their title in 2024. However, the team currently trails rivals Slavia Prague, sitting third in the standings this season.
As Arsenal continues its search for a new sporting director, Rosicky remains focused on his role at Sparta Prague, where he has built a solid reputation as an effective football executive.
